“From November 27th to November 29th, 2025, accompanied by Mrs Thiercy, a group of ten LFB Terminale students had the opportunity to participate in BCNMUN, the annual Model United Nations conference organized by ASB, the American School of Barcelona.
Over four days, as delegates, we engaged in debates, drafted solutions, and collaborated with motivated students from around the world.
We were assigned to a variety of committees, each tackling different global challenges, including the General Assembly (GA), the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), the Security Council (SC), and the Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISC).
As a delegate in the UNODC committee, I represented China. This role pushed me to deepen my understanding of the country I was representing (its policies, priorities, and position on the global stage).
I also needed to familiarize myself with the perspectives and interests of other nations in order to engage meaningfully in debate and find common ground.
Moreover, my committee focused on two major topics: the black-market arms trade and strengthening legal frameworks to combat Mexican drug cartels.
Working on these issues taught me how complex and interconnected global security challenges are.
Throughout the conference, we developed a wide range of skills, such as lobbying, debating, and delivering speeches, which, personally, helped me grow more confident in presenting ideas clearly and persuasively.
Drafting resolutions, negotiating with other delegates, and proposing amendments were all new experiences that strengthened my leadership and teamwork abilities.
Beyond the formal debates, BCNMUN also offered the chance to connect with students from different backgrounds, each bringing unique perspectives to the table, which made the experience even more enriching.
One highlight was the social event organized at Twenties, where all delegates were able to have fun after the intensity of the debates, which was a great chance to meet people from other Committees.
Overall, BCNMUN was a challenging and rewarding experience for all of us.
It expanded our understanding of international relations, pushed us to step outside our comfort zones, and helped us develop skills that will continue to serve us well in the future.”
